The Stinky Cheese Man and other Fairly Stupid Tales

Many years ago, my sister told me I needed to read The Stinky Cheese Man and other Fairly Stupid Tales by Jon Scieszka and Lane Smith. I looked at her a bit strangely, because it is a picture book, and I didn’t have any children at the time.

“Really, Michelle, read it.”

I conceded. And laughed hard! When I need a good laugh, this is one of my favorite books to pick up.

The humor starts on the front flap. “56 action-packed pages. 75% more than those old 32-page “Brand-X” books.”

What?

Exactly.

Title page, dedication page, the back flap, even the back cover – don’t miss one word of this book, because it’s all funny.

Not to mention the stories inside, which are all spoofs of classic fairy tales, like Chicken Little, the Gingerbread Man, etc.

If you want to read this to your children, you need to make sure they know the original stories. Otherwise it probably won’t be so funny, and they’ll wonder why you’re laughing so hard you can hardly read.

Recommended for ages 8 and up. (Younger if they know the original fairy tales.)
