My girls grabbed Chloe and the Lion by Mac Barnett before I had a chance to read it. Every time I picked it up, they both told me, “Oh Mom, you’ll love that book! It’s really funny!”
And it is! Barnett, and his illustrator Adam Rex, get quite involved in the story Barnett is writing. In fact, they get into a fight and another illustrator ends up coming in to help – except that he doesn’t draw the way Barnett wants him to draw.
In the midst of all this, the story changes, and changes again. But everything ends up happily, for Barnett, Rex and even for Chloe.
I recommend this delightfully funny picture book for ages 4 and up. (And yes, my 5th- and 7th-graders loved this book.)
