Chris Van Allsburg, a talented artist and author, brings his unique eye to the younger crowd in his alphabet book The Z was Zapped.
Each letter takes the stage, and something happens to it.
The E slowly evaporates.
The M begins to melt.
The O is overgrown.
And you can guess what happens to the Z – it was zapped.
Instead of having the words of the story & the illustration on the same page, Van Allsburg reveals the illustration first. The readers must then turn the page to figure out what happens to the letter. It can be a bit confusing at first, since we’re reading about the “E”, and seeing the letter “F.” But it also allows more fun in reading aloud to children – “Do you remember what happens to the E?” and allows the reader and the child to focus on the illustration first.
Highly recommended for ages 12 months – 5 years.
