Revolutionary Friends

The friendship between General George Washington & the Marquis de Lafayette is legendary.  Author Selene Castrovilla tells the story of their first meeting in Revolutionary Friends: General George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.

She starts at the moment Lafayette is in City Tavern in Philadelphia, ready to meet his hero, George Washington.  She then traces his journey across the ocean from France, and follows their friendship through the Battle of Brandywine, where Lafayette is injured.

Castrovilla sprinkles French phrases throughout the book, along with quotes from the Marquis himself – lending to its authenticity.  At the end, she gives a brief overview of how the men maintained their friendship over the years, followed by a brief timeline of each of their lives.

And if you don’t know what the French phrases mean, she includes translations at the end of the book, along with other resources and places to visit.
