Silly Sally

My cousin is having a baby, and instead of cards they requested that we give books.  I scoured my shelves, looking at the board books and picture books I had saved from when my children were tiny. Of course I couldn’t find a single book I could give up!

In my scouring, I came across a board book I read over and over again to my littles, Silly Sally by Audrey Wood.

There are few books I can handle reading over and over and over again, but Silly Sally is one of them (along with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, any Dr. Suess book and We’re Going on a Bear Hunt).

Sally is heading into town.  She’s quite silly because she’s walking backwards, upside down.  While on her way, she runs into some crazy critters, all doing silly things.  Sally always joins them in their antics – and they get stuck, sleeping by the side of the road.  Fortunately, Neddy Buttercup comes along, and eventually they all make it into town.

I enjoyed this book so much because of the lilting way it reads, with plenty of rhymes and fun pictures, even if there isn’t much of a plot to it.

Highly recommended for ages infant – 5.
