The Easter Story

This weekend Christians all over the world celebrate Easter, arguably the holiest of Christian holidays.  Children and adults alike will hear the story of Jesus and the week leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection.

For families celebrating Easter, The Easter Story by Brian Wildsmith is a beautiful retelling of the story. Beautiful, not only in the telling, but also in the illustrating.

Wildsmith uses simple language, and the little donkey Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, to walk readers through Holy Week through the eyes of the little donkey.  Visually, Wildsmith’s lavish illustrations are sometimes simple, sometimes quite detailed, but always accented with brilliant gold.

The Easter Story is a book I wish I had had when my children were younger – although we are certainly enjoying it now.

Highly recommended for ages 18 months and up.
