Daniel witnessed the crucifixion of his father, and ever since he has passionately pursued driving the Roman legions from his homeland of Israel.
He joins a band of outlaws, living in caves and robbing caravans. His grandmother’s death forces him to leave the outlaws to care for his sister, but does not quench his desire for revenge.
Rumors to start to fly about a rabbi in nearby Capernaum, one who teaches a different lesson. Instead of revenge, this rabbi teaches about love.
The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare is one of my favorite books of hers. She has some other great ones (including The Sign of the Beaver). Daniel’s journey from vengeance and hate to love is authentic and powerful.
Highly recommended for ages 12 and up.
