Jayson must do whatever it takes to get by after his mom dies and her boyfriend leaves. He plans to avoid the foster care system no matter what – and plans to keep playing basketball on his middle school team too.
Jayson gets away with it too – until one day he’s discovered and is forced into a foster home on the other side of town. He is forced to leave his friends, his middle school and his team and figure out how to get by at the private school his foster parents enroll him in.
Fast Break by Mike Lupica will appeal to kids who play sports, especially basketball. Quite a bit of the book describes plays and basketball games – but it’s still relatively easy for non-sports people to follow (like me).
Recommended for ages 8 and up.
