As I was scrolling through my new-to-me library’s Overdrive collection, I found The Magic World by E. Nesbit. I have heard the author’s name before, but couldn’t place where (& still can’t, tho Google tells me she wrote over 60 books – all children’s literature).
This book is perfect for shorter drives with children. Each chapter is a different short story, each charming and so different.
Some main characters are boys, others are girls. Most are written in third person, at least one eventually winds its way into a first person account.
The one thread they have in common is magic. There’s a magic train schedule, a magic spyglass. Some children are ordinary, everyday children, some are royalty.
Best of all, narrator Johanna Ward is easy to listen to and tells each story, rather than reading it.
Highly recommended for all ages.
