As a child, some of my favorite books were Roger Hargreaves’ Mr. Men and Little Miss books. He wrote dozens of them, under the titles like Mr. Tickle, Mr. Messy, Little Miss Sunshine, and Little Miss Chatterbox.
Each story follows the adventures of it’s main character as he or she goes throughout his or her day. Those adventures can be quite funny – such as when Mr. Messy meets Mr. Neat & Mr. Tidy and they tidy up Mr. Messy’s yard, house and then Mr. Messy himself.
When I had kids of my own, I dug out a few of the books my parents own and read them to my own children. Our favorite to read was Mr. Tickle, because at the end of the book, Hargreaves sets up the reader for a deliciously fun tickle session. (That one isn’t so fun to read by yourself.)
These paperback picture books are somewhat longer than the average picture book, so be prepared to read 15-20 minutes for each book. Believe me, they are worth the effort.
