Boys who love horses and cowboys will enjoy reading Cowboy Ned & Andy, a picture book by David Ezra Stein.
Cowboy Ned is celebrating his birthday out on the range, so his horse, Andy, tries to find a cake for him. As he wanders the range, Andy encounters plenty of creatures, none of whom are helpful in finding the cake.
Finally, Andy meets an old cowboy, playing a banjo. Does he have a cake? Nope, but he does have a small piece of advice which will make Ned’s birthday great.
Toddlers, preschoolers and even early elementary students will enjoy the bright illustrations and warm friendship between Ned and Andy. And they will look forward to reading the sequel Ned’s New Friend, in which Andy has to learn to accept someone else in Ned’s life.
