It’s difficult to find an alphabet book that stands out from the shelves crowded with such books. Each time I find one, I’m thrilled. I remember the tedium of reading the same book over and over to a toddler, so to find a book we both enjoyed reading over and over was quite the treasure.
And to find an alphabet book with the elusive combination of interesting vocabulary and fun pictures? That is quite a find.
Which is exactly what I discovered in Sarah Asper-Smith’s Have You Ever Seen a Smack of Jellyfish?
What kind of title is that for an alphabet book? A delightful one! Asper-Smith takes readers through a delightful tromp through huge masses of animals – armies of ants, parades of elephants, scourges of mosquitoes – all with simple, color-block illustrations.
This book definitely deserves a spot on the bookshelf, and is worthy of re-reading often.
Recommended for ages 12 months – 5 years.
