Karson and Korie King live in a small town – and have big aspirations. Karson plans to be a soldier, and Korie a lady.
Unknown to them, their lives are interwoven with that of Talon, the son of the exiled prince.
Elites, The island of Darkness by Kira M. Dewey is the first in a fantasy series, establishing these three characters and their families, as well as a host of others.
A friend of mine asked me to read this debut novel from her friend’s daughter.
There’s plenty of mystery and action, including a daring raid at the end of the book.
This is definitely a debut novel. At times, I found the dialogue a bit stilted, and characteristics forced. However, the plot drew me in and kept me interested.
Will I read the rest of the series? Probably not. However, if you have a pre-teen or teen who loves fantasy novels, I’d give them this book, and any others in this series.
