We have often teased our children about boxing them up and sending them to visit their grandparents via the post office. These conversations usually happen when they are missing their grandparents and we have no immediate plans to visit them.
In Mailing May by Michael O. Tunnell, that is exactly what happened!
Little May wanted to visit her grandmother so badly, but many miles through the mountains separated them. A train ticket was too expensive, so May’s parents came up with an idea:
Mail May through the postal service.
And that’s exactly what they did! May didn’t have to hunker into a box for the trip. The post master just put stamps and an address on her coat, and she followed the carrier onto the train.
Based on a true story, this picture book will delight young readers – and listeners.
