I love to read stories about family history, whether it is mine or someone else’s. Lucky for me, Elaine Snyder tells the story of her grandparents who immigrated from Russia to New York City around the 1900’s in Anna & Solomon.
This is a sweet story – one with a sad beginning, but a happy ending. Snyder tells why Solomon and Anna decided to leave Russia, which is sad. They decide that Solomon must come first, since they can afford only one ticket to America.
Solomon comes and works hard to save money for a ticket for his wife, Anna. But when he meets the boat, he’s in for a surprise.
This is the sweet part of the story – of sacrificial love and perseverance.
Recommended for ages 3 – 8.
