If you love games and strategy, you’ll love Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library by Chris Grabenstein.
The famous game inventor Mr. Lemoncello has built a brand new library in his home town in Ohio. To celebrate the grand opening, he’s invited twelve 12-year-olds for an all-night lock-in in the library.
Kyle Keeley is determined to make the list. He loves games, especially Mr. Lemoncello’s creative ones. He’s not sure about reading, but why not? The winners not only get an invitation to the lock-in, but also a pretty hefty gift card to Mr. Lemoncello’s store – and that Kyle can appreciate.
What Kyle doesn’t realize that getting into the library is the easy part. Getting out will require Kyle to use every skill he’s learned in school and playing games – and plenty of luck too.
Jesse Bernstein reads the audiobook, which is very good. Grabenstein also wrote The Island of Dr. Libris, which we also enjoyed. We have avoided his horror books, because we don’t like that genre.
Highly recommended for ages 8 and up.
